We are now seeking a plant engineer to work on process and project engineering activities for our Industry and Water Segment, at our Spokane, WA facility. This will include process improvements and modifications, new project development and implementation, preparing and managing capital projects, and troubleshooting existing process problems. This person will also assist with process safety and management of change and will report to the Plant Manager.

In this role you'll be responsible for:

  • EHS and SOP Compliance: Follow all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Assist in the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new and existing equipment and processes, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of plant operations.
  • Project and Engineering Management: Oversee and manage capital investment projects, controlling external engineering teams and activities for larger projects or disciplines beyond Kemira's internal capabilities. Collaborate closely with sourcing managers on procurement activities, ensuring all engineering disciplines are well-coordinated.
  • Process Design and Optimization: Perform comprehensive process design, including P&IDs, PFDs, production capacity analysis, process conditions determination, and equipment selection (tanks, reactors, pumps, valves, piping, instruments, etc.). Create Process Functional Descriptions, General Arrangement drawings, and specify appropriate materials of construction based on engineering standards and internal best practices.
  • Technical Support and Continuous Improvement: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing and maintenance, driving continuous improvement in plant manufacturing processes and systems. Work closely with plant personnel to optimize processes, maintain plant drawings, and update equipment and instrument indexes.
  • Process Safety Management: Assist with all aspects of process safety, including managing the change process (MOC), conducting process hazard analysis (PHA), stewarding process safety action items, auditing safety policies, and conducting e-startup safety reviews (PSSR). Investigate and resolve process incidents to ensure a safe working environment.

What you'll bring to the team:

  • Educational and Professional Background: Hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Chemical. Possess 5-7+ years of technical experience in Process Engineering and/or Project Engineering, with a strong background in continuous improvement and a proven track record of success.
  • Project and Construction Management: Experienced in managing multidisciplinary projects, including project management and/or construction management. Knowledge of automated system specifications and functional descriptions is an asset, as is training as a PHA Facilitator.
  • Technical and Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated strong computer skills, particularly in MS Office applications. Excellent English language capability, encompassing verbal, written, and reading skills, to ensure effective communication and documentation.
  • Interpersonal and Team Skills: Exhibit good interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Leadership experience is an advantage, demonstrating the ability to guide and motivate team members effectively.
  • Personal Attributes and Problem-Solving: Self-starting and self-managing with a flexible, problem-solving mindset. Capable of adapting to changing circumstances and proactively addressing challenges to achieve project goals.
